Pakistan rescues North American family of five from 'terrorists'

Pak Army recovers five Western hostages

Pakistani soldiers have freed a North American family of five who were being held hostage by the Afghan Taliban, Pakistan's military says.

"US intelligence agencies had been tracking them and shared their shifting across to Pakistan on October 11, 2017, through the Kurram Agency border", the ISPR said.

ABC News reports that Caitlan Coleman, 31, and her husband Joshua Boyle, 34, were freed from Taliban captivity and then secured in an exchange between Pakistani military and USA commandos late Wednesday.

Coleman's parents, Jim and Lyn Coleman, told the online Circa News service in July 2016 that they received a letter from their daughter in November 2015, in which she wrote that she'd given birth to a second child in captivity.

"The army statement added that the success underscored timely intelligence sharing and Pakistan's continued commitment towards fighting the menace "of terrorism" through cooperation between two forces against a common enemy". "The world is starting to respect us again, believe me", Trump said appearing to reference Pakistan and that country's role in bringing about the the recovery of the four hostages.

The family was being held by the Haqqani network.

Coleman was five-months pregnant at the time and the couple was backpacking through Central Asia.

The Haqqani network has been accused of masterminding several high-profile terrorist attacks in the Afghan capital and have been known to kidnap Western hostages and smuggle them across the border into Pakistan.

The family was kidnapped in Afghanistan in 2012.

"We welcome media reports that a family including USA citizens has been released from captivity", a United States embassy spokesman in Islamabad told AFP, without confirming the identity of the released hostages.

"That will have to change, and that will change immediately", Trump added, saying "No partnership can survive a country's harboring of militants and terrorists who target USA service members and officials".
