Proclamations against Hussain, Hasan Nawaz pasted in accountability court

Zardari arrives in Peshawar to muster support for PPP candidate

Retired Captain Muhammad Safdar, the son-in-law of the former prime minister, on Thursday approached the Islamabad High Court against his and wife Maryam Nawaz's scheduled indictment in a graft reference, ARY News reported.

The sons of former prime minister had failed to appear before the NAB court despite the issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants against them.

Safdar submitted in the petition that the accountability court is scheduled to indict him, his father-in-law Nawaz Sharif, and wife Maryam Nawaz on Oct 13 (Friday) in a graft reference pertaining to the Sharif family's London flats.

In the notice, both the respondents have been directed to appear before the court within 30 days.

Hussain and Hassan had reportedly made a decision to not join the proceedings of the corruption references against them.

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has said that Hassan and Hussain have chosen to invoke their British citizenship in order to skip the court proceedings in Pakistan.

"They are foreign citizens and Pakistani laws do not apply to them, therefore they are unlikely to join the court proceedings against them here", he told Dawn news.

Sharif's sons had been doing business overseas for over two decades, their financial matters were open for scrutiny in Britain and Saudi Arabia, he said, adding that Sharif, Maryam and Safdar will continue to attend court proceedings.

In addition, Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir separated the trial of Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz from the others and declared them absconders.

Earlier after appearing before the NAB court on Monday, when Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz was asked when her brothers would appear before the court, she said, "My brothers live overseas. the laws of here [Pakistan] don't apply to them".

The accountability court is hearing a total of three corruption cases against the Sharif family filed by NAB in light of the Supreme Court's judgment in the Panama Papers case.
