Swiss prosecutors open criminal proceedings against PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi

Al-Khelaifi welcomes world record signing Neymar to PSG back in August

The proceedings relate to the sale of World Cup TV rights to BeIn Sports, where Al-Khelaifi is chief executive, and are connected to the ongoing investigation into former Federation Internationale de Football Association secretary general Jerome Valcke.

According to the OAG, Valcke is also suspected of accepting advantages from the businessman for rights to the 2018, 2022, 2026 and 2030 editions.

The European Union's Judicial Cooperation Unit (EUROJUST) said "multiple premises were searched, assets were seized and interviews were conducted as a result of this joint operation".

Switzerland has opened a criminal probe targeting Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain, and FIFA's former secretary general Jerome Valcke, over alleged corruption in the sale of World Cup media rights.

The criminal proceeding was opened on March 20, but only announced on Thursday, the Swiss federal office said.

Al-Khelaifi's profile has risen in recent weeks as PSG pursued and sealed a world record transfer of Brazil star Neymar from Barcelona for $260 million (U.S.).

The 56-year-old Frenchman, employed by FIFA from 2003 to January 2016, was sacked by football's ruling body over his involvement in black market ticket sales and misconduct in television deals.

The proceedings relate to an ongoing OAG investigation into Valcke that began in March 2016 and was opened on "suspicion of various acts of criminal mismanagement".

FIFA's former secretary general Jerome Valcke was at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne on Wednesday to appeal his 10-year ban from football.
