2018 iPhones Expected To Ditch Fingerprint Readers

According to renowned Apple researcher Ming-Chi Kuo, KGI Securities has discovered that since Apple launched the iPhone X, 3D sensing has overtaken under-display fingerprint scanning technology as the latest or rather trending investment theme.

Kuo thinks Apple's going to switch over all its models to Face ID in an attempt to better compete with Android rivals.

Apple will push its advantage over Android handset makers by integrating Face ID into all 2018 iPhone models, replacing current Touch ID technology all together.

The company announced their iPhone X, the first iPhone to receive Apple's new facial recognition technology, Face ID. It figures an integrated user experience composed of a full-screen design, TrueDepth Camera, facial scanning, and AR apps will help it gain a competitive advantage via differentiation. All new models will reportedly feature a full screen design and facial recognition.

Apple introduced a third iPhone for the first time this year; a special, tenth-anniversary edition of the device - aptly named iPhone X (ten) - that sports an nearly all-screen design with just a notch at the top, where the sensors that enable the face-scanning technology reside. Apple claims that Face ID is more secure and accurate when compared to Touch ID. The phones have prominent bezels on sides like we saw on previous-generation iPhone devices. Initially, it was speculated that Apple might re-introduce Touch Id in the next iterations of iPhone. Additionally, Kuo is also predicting that next year's iPad Pros will also be equipped with a TrueDepth camera for Face ID.
