BioWare vet and Dragon Age director Mike Laidlaw is leaving the company

Mike Laidlaw

Today he said goodbye to a company that he has been with for 14 years, and fans of the awesome worlds that have come from BioWare are "shook".

Mike Laidlaw, the lead designer and creative director of BioWare's hit Dragon Age RPG series, has announced his departure from the studio.

Laidlaw first joined BioWare as the lead story developer and writer for Jade Empire, an action role-playing game that launched in 2005.

We wish you best in your future endeavors, Mike, and excited to see what you will do next.

He most recently served as creative director on 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition, and it's yet unclear what his plans for the future are beyond playing (and streaming) some games. His departure will be sorely missed by core fans, but we'll always have the awesome experiences he helped make.

"It's with a mix of emotions that I'm announcing my time with BioWare has ended", he says. "After 14 years and a chance to work on Jade Empire, Mass Effect and all things Dragon Age it's time for me to move on".

It also appears as though Laidlaw will be taking some time off as he referenced a desire to spend time "reconnecting with all the fantastic games and worlds" that other developers have made. When you spend so many hours a week at work, it can be incredibly challenging to find time for personal gaming time, let alone even having a life.
