Robert Kubica test with Williams F1 team successful

Kubica completed a "successful" test for Williams at Silverstone on Wednesday, ahead of another run in Hungary next week, as he contends for a race seat against Paul di Resta and current driver Felipe Massa. Now, the Pole has seems to have began testing with Williams F1 team, and has just competed his first test with the team. He also believed in an 80 to 90 percent return to the open-wheel racing series.

Both are in the frame to replace 36-year-old Felipe Massa, should Williams decide not to renew the Brazilian's contract.

All a spokesman for the British team would say about the Pole's run in a 2014 vehicle was that it had been "successful".

Ecclestone said that, had it not been for Kubica's crash, he would be world champion, adding that Kubica could come back from an injury "stronger than ever", the onet.pl website said.

Ecclestone, the former chief executive of Formula 1, has been following Kubica's progress closely since a rally accident in 2011, and thinks the Pole could be the ideal driver for struggling Williams. Though there are lingering questions about Kubica's physical limitations, Rosberg has no doubts he is capable of returning. "It is about getting to know each other and if it fits well it will be absolutely awesome to see Kubica back on the grid and in F1".

Renault ended up taking Carlos Sainz on loan from Toro Rosso for next season as a replacement, with the Spaniard joining the team already for next week's US Grand Prix in Texas.

"We will test those two drivers", team technical director Paddy Lowe confirmed.

With Fernando Alonso expected to re-sign with McLaren and Sauber likely to give newly-crowned Formula 2 champion and Ferrari junior Charles Leclerc a drive, Williams holds the last seat with a genuine question-mark for next season.
