SpaceX Successfully Launches EchoStar 105/SES-11

And On October 11, SpaceX re-used a partially filled Falcon 9 booster to launch the commercial SES-11/EchoStar 105 Ultra High Definition (UHD) TV satellite serving North America.

The dual-mission satellite will be shared by Colorado-based EchoStar and SES, a Luxembourg company. The high-powered communications satellite replaces C-band capacity for AMC-18 and Ku-band capacity for AMC-15 at the 105 degrees West orbital slot. It'll provide Ku-band communication services through EchoStar for commercial and US government customers, as well as high-definition and ultra-high-def video service through SES in the C-band part of the spectrum. The satellite offers comprehensive coverage over North America, including Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean.

It was the second Falcon 9 liftoff this week, coming after a launch from California on Monday that successfully put 10 Iridium Next telecom satellites in orbit.

Martin Halliwell, Chief Technology Officer of SES, said, "The successful launch of SES-11 further strengthens the centre of SES's North American orbital arc and enables us to continue to provide a premium C-band service to the leading cable operators across the US".

Rocket reusability is part of SpaceX's strategy for dramatically reducing the cost of access to space.

More information about SES-11 available at SES-11 newsroom. This launch is the first of eight launches scheduled that will place 75 satellites in orbit for the company. SES focuses on value-added, end-to-end solutions in two key business units: SES Video and SES Networks.

EchoStar 105 will provide EchoStar Ku-band transponder capacity with coverage of the 50 US states and expanded reach to the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean for satellite communications services for the company's enterprise, media and broadcast, and USA government service provider customers.
