Tamil Nadu government approves 7th Pay Commission recommendations; liquor prices raised

Palaniswami

The Tamil Nadu government chose to increase liquor prices at a Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, in a move that authorities say will add Rs 5,320 crore to the state's coffers. Overall, an expected 34 lakh civilian government employees and around 14 lakh defence personnel will be benefited after their salaries will be revised.

Tamil Nadu Minister for Electricity P. Thangamani has urged the central government to increase coal supplies as originally promised to avoid blackouts since the current supplies are inadequate.

A 180-ml alcohol bottle would now be costlier by Rs 12, while the price of beer would go up by Rs 10, an official with the state liquor retailing company TASMAC said. "The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting chaired by Tamil Nadu C.M Edappadi K Palaniswami today."More than 10 lakh employees include teachers get this benefits". The cabinet took the decision based on a report submitted by a high-level committee led by finance secretary K Shanmugam. It is also preparing to increase the salaries of government employees and continue with the plethora of subsidy schemes too.

The central government earlier in June this year had approved the recommendations of the 7th pay commission (CPC) related to allowances, with 34 modifications. Madras High Court even had to order a stay on the protests as it violated service rules, the report said.
