Trump's Campaign Spent Another One Million Dollars In Legal Fees

Donald Trump jnr has appeared before the Russia-probe committee

The $1.1 million the campaign spent on lawyers during the third quarter of the year is almost double what the president's fundraising committee spent on legal fees during the previous three-month period, campaign reports filed Sunday show.

Futerfas has represented the President's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., in response to inquiries about his role in the campaign and a meeting he held in Trump Tower previous year under the premise of obtaining damaging information on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. After days of ever-shifting statements to The New York Times, the president's son publicly admitted met with a Russian lawyer in June 2016 to get dirt on Democratic Candidate Hillary Clinton.

The bulk of the campaign's legal consulting spending went to Jones Day.

Trump's campaign is handling just part of the legal costs that Republican donors are shouldering for the real-estate and licensing magnate and his family.

The filings come as Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged Russian meddling moves closer to the White House and Trump's inner circle.

CNN previously reported the Republican National Committee spent more than $230,000 in August to cover legal fees for Trump, including more than $130,000 to his personal attorney Jay Sekulow.

The FEC report Sunday showed the campaign paid almost $240,000 to Futerfas' firm in July and August.

His campaign has raised more than $36 million since January. Futerfas has not responded to repeated requests for comment about the payment. Sunday's campaign report shows that donors' money is spent at Trump properties, too.
