North Korea warns USA threats 'a big miscalculation'

North Korea warns USA threats 'a big miscalculation'

The letter, which Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says is the first of its kind sent from North Korea to Australia, rails against Trump.

The letter, which is titled "Open Letter to Parliaments of Different Countries", was drafted by North Korea's Foreign Affairs Committee, and was dispatched to the North Korean embassy in Jakarta before reaching Australia.

But Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull believes the letter from North Korea was not only for Australia as it did not state anything about Down Under.

The letter comes as tensions between Washington and Pyongyang remain heightened.

The letter noted that Trump, president of the US styling itself the "supremepower", denied the existence of the DPRK, a dignified sovereign state, and spit out ignorant remarks of "total destruction" at the UN General Assembly, stunning the world public.

Fairfax published North Korea's letter, which reportedly came from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Foreign Affairs Committee.

The letter claims that from his first day in office "Trump has engaged himself in high-handed and arbitrary practice, scrapping global laws and agreements incurring his displeasure on the US-first principle".

The letter labels the worldwide sanctions regime "illegal", accusing the United Nations security council of breaching the United Nations charter and North Korea's right to "normal economic development".

"I think this shows they are feeling desperate, feeling isolated, trying to demonise the USA, trying to divide the worldwide community", Ms Bishop said.

On Saturday, Pyongyang used its state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) to call out Australia for calling to end the former's nuclear weapons program.

He said it demonstrated that diplomatic pressure on North Korea was working, despite the document being "basically a rant" consistent with earlier rhetoric.

'This is effectively an invitation to have high level access, to send an [Australian] delegation from Seoul, ' Dr Graham said.

Speaking via KCNA, the rogue nation said the joint US-South Korean naval drill in the waters off the Korean Peninsula risked nuclear war.
