An assailant stabbed a senior editor at Russia's Echo of Moscow radio Monday in a brazen break-in and attack at one of Russia's most prominent and politically outspoken talk stations. She was not in danger of life, tweeted editor-in-chief of station, Alexei Wenediktow.

One of the station's regular broadcasters, Yulia Latynina, said earlier this year she had been forced to flee Russian Federation after a series of attacks, including the torching of her auto.

According to Wenediktow, man was able to gain access to building by knocking out a security guard through a spray.

"The man came here on objective".

The state-run TASS news agency cited an unnamed hospital source as saying the editor is in a grave condition.

"You remember that I have had to evacuate some of my employees", Venediktov said by telephone, referring to Latynina and several others who have been threatened or had to leave the country due to their reporting.

A spokesman for the Russian Prosecutor-General's office, Alexander Kurennoi, said on Facebook the attack was an outrageous act.

Another popular Ekho Moskvy host, Yulia Latynina, fled Russian Federation in September following a suspected arson attack on her vehicle. They did not elaborate.

Russian journalist Tatyana Feldenhauer has been seriously injured after an unidentified attacker stabbed her in the throat, reported The Independent.

The state television channel Rossiya 24 put out a report two weeks ago that described the station as an "arm of the U.S. State Department", saying it gets paid for "destabilizing society" ahead of Russia's presidential election in March.
