Police Attacked on Peaceful Baloch, Pakthoon Students at QAU

Educational activities have been restored in Quaid-e-Azam University after 20 days of closure with security men still deployed inside the campus as detained students have been released.

On Monday, police cracked down against protesting students as the university opened after two weeks. In our country law it is clearly defined in 1973 constitutions that without any kind of reason or without any investigation the police can not take action.

The students also demanded that the fee structure be revised, new hostels be made, buses be provided, heavy fines be reimbursed and for student facilities to be improved. They also insisted to remove the Vice Chancellor Dr Javed Ashraf while accusing him of administrative irregularities and embezzlement.

On Thursday, the university administration and protesting students held successful negotiations, as what the varsity administration claimed.

While the students maintain that they were beaten badly, the police say the students had forcibly closed university classrooms and barred the buses from operating. He said that out of the total arrested students, only 25 were Baloch students, while the remaining belonged to Pakhtun, GB and Sariaki councils, who he hoped, would be released on Tuesday. Moreover, women police officials were also present at the premises. Due to this, cases of sporadic clashes between protesting students and the law enforcers were reported at various places on the campus. Some unruly individuals (most of whom are believed outsiders and not the QAU students) attempted to disrupt classes. It is expected that academic activities will be carried out normally today (Tuesday), stated the official communiqué. The council demanded that expelled Baloch students, including the council chairman, be restored.

"We are facing injustice", another representative, Shahdad Baloch, said, adding that their protest would continue.
