PDP governors in crucial meeting ahead of Dec 9 convention in Enugu

Uche Secondus

Governors' Forum has resolved to support anyone who emerges the party's National chairman at the upcoming National Convention of the party.

After about seven hours closed-door meeting in Enugu, governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday failed to arrive at a consensus for the party's national chairmanship position in readiness for the December 9 convention.

"We put PDP first and PDP is first".

"We are leaving Enugu today believing that we will take over power in 2019, and we have equally agreed, believing we have all it takes to take over Anambra State on the 18th of this month as we have worked very well and deserve victory" Governor Fayose said.

Fayose flanked by other PDP governors expressed the belief that the party would win the November 18 governorship poll in Anambra.

"We believe we will take over Anambra if the election is free, fair and credible".

"Nigeria is of age to conduct election that is acceptable internationally", he said.

Others include: Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti), Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo (Gombe), Darius Ishaku, (Taraba), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Chief Host) the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Eric Kelechi Igwe.

Though the meeting, which started at about 5:30pm and lasted till midnight, had planned to possibly reduce the number of aspirants from eight to possibly two or three, it however failed to achieve the aim.

Some of the candidates contesting for the PDP national chairman seat are Chief Bode George, Otumba Gbenga Daniel, Chief Jimi Agbaje, Chief Raymond Dokposi, Prof Tunde Adeniran, and Rasheed Ladoja.

Also in the meeting were former governors Gabriel Suswam, Godswill Akpabio and Sule Lamido.

The others were Kema Chikwe, former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, Tom Ikimi, and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.
