Ben Roethlisberger: NFL needs to 'get rid of' Thursday night games

Yes, the last one is a thing of beauty, as displayed during Sunday's win over the Indianapolis Colts. Get ready for another low-scoring game Steelers game on Thursday night.

After watching that, it's no wonder that Ben Roethlisberger is even more fired up than usual in opposition to the Thursday night game.

The Titans will travel to Pittsburgh for the Week 11 matchup on just four days rest, and they're locked in a tight divisional race in the AFC South with the Jacksonville Jaguars at the moment. During an interview on Monday with 93.7 The Fan, a CBS Sports Radio station in Pittsburgh, Roethlisberger ripped the idea of Thursday games and called on the National Football League to just get rid of them.

Back in 2016, outspoken Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman wrote a column for the Players Tribune entitled "Why I Hate Thursday Night Football". It's so tough on guys, you're beat up, you're banged up. Obviously a team with a losing record isn't going to challenge you much so it's safe to say that the Steelers are looking ahead each Sunday to keep themselves focused on the goal.

Ironically one weapon the Steelers might have to fight not just a short week, but what a defense can bring, is the no-huddle.

The Steelers play the Titans at Heinz Field this Thursday. "It's a very violent, physical game we play".

There is nothing like having a short week to prepare not just for a game against a team that is in a first-place tie in their division, but throw on top of that a team with a defensive coordinator who knows a little bit about your offense, and will throw everything including the kitchen sink at you. You still are dealing with bumps and bruises and things continue to build up throughout the season.

There are some things that are such a natural beauty in life you can't bother but marvel in awe at them. I know the players voted on it, even though we were the only team to unanimously vote against the CBA.

The entire premise of TNF could have been summed up with Roethlisberger's last comment: at the end of the day, the players need to do what the league says. As bad of an idea as it is to make teams play two games in a five-day span, Roethlisberger's diatribe isn't suddenly going to excuse him from taking the field on Thursday. It's not that he's wrong, it's that he's focused too much on the problems with the game instead of just accepting that he needs to deal with something that's really beyond his control as an individual player.
