India lose to Bangladesh, knocked out of U-19 Asia Cup

India Ousted From U-19 Asia Cup After Bangladesh Thrashing

India were sensationally knocked out of the ACC Under-19 Youth Asia Cup after an eight-wicket defeat to Bangladesh allowed Nepal to advance to the semi-finals today.

Earlier Bangladeshi bowlers managed to pick wickets at regular interval and India's Salman Khan top-scored with an unbeaten 39.

India U-19 team failed to get off to a good start, and things would have gone haywire had not Salman Khan (39) and Anuj Rawat (34) chipped in with some big hitting at the fag end.

With India crashing out, four teams-Nepal, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan-have made it to the last-four stage.

Bangladesh's opening pair of Pinak Ghosh and Mohammad Naim Sheikh provided a solid 82-run partnership to dent India's hopes.

Ghosh then combined with Mohammad Tawhid Hridoy to take his side to victory with an unbroken 83-run stand for the fourth wicket. Before the start of the tournament, India coach Rahul Dravid had said that results are not his focus with the team. Rather he was looking at developing the skills of the players.

In the match delayed and reduced to 24 overs due to the rain, the hosts had posted a meagre 46-run target to Nepal, which the opponents accomplished at the loss of just two wickets in 5.3 overs.

Afghanistan joined Pakistan in the semi-finals by registering a resounding 134-run win over UAE. The Indian team then suffered a batting collapse of sorts, as they slipped from 68 for 3 to 187 for 8 with none of their batsman showing any resistance.

Nepal thrashed Malaysia by eight wickets set up a semi-final against Bangladesh. The match was reduced to 32-overs-a-side game.
