Clubbing pleas together: Nawaz Sharif moves IHC against NAB court ruling

Clubbing references Nawaz challenges NAB court's verdict in IHC

Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday challenged the accountability court's decision to not merge the three references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Islamabad High Court.

A five-member team of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), headed by deputy director Mehboob Ahmed, met Nawaz in the presence of his lawyers at the Punjab House where he signed the three court summons while Minister of State for CADD Tariq Fazal Chaudhry signed the bail bond on Nawaz's behalf.

The IHC should also suspend accountability court proceedings till the framing of a joint charge against the Sharifs, the petition requests.

Last week, the ousted prime minister was indicted separately in each of the three references.

Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir last month separated the case of Sharif's sons from rest of the family and also initiated proceeding to declare them proclaimed offenders as the two brothers, now in London, have not appeared in the court even once. Nawaz and his two sons, Hussain and Hasan, are nominated in all three references whereas his daughter Maryam and her husband are only accused in one.

Judge Muhammad Bashir took up the Nawaz Sharif's plea seeking clubbing together of all three references, including Avenfield property, Flagship Investment and Azizia Steel Mills in light of Islamabad High Court (IHC) judgment to re-hear the case. Thus, he added, separate references cannot be filed against him, requesting the court to club together all three references.

The application said the NAB court did not review proposals given by the IHC earlier and took decision in haste hence it should be dismissed.
