Jack Sock pips Marin Cilic in final-set tie-break

Jack Sock

Sock showed the sort of fighting spirit that enabled him to win the Paris Masters title and sneak into the last Finals spot, getting back on serve when Cilic fired a forehand into the tramlines under pressure.

Sock blasted a ball into the crowd in frustration, but channeled his anger to break in the first game of the second set and was clearly enjoying himself, moving around the court nimbly as he levelled the match in dominant fashion.

The key moment came in the decisive tie-break with Cilic a mini-break ahead at 4-3.

Jack Sock has revealed that he was forced out of his room at 4am on Tuesday morning due to a fire alarm at his hotel.

Cilic is making his third appearance at the season finale, was looking to bolster his chances of making the semi-finals for the first time.

"That was a tough one for sure", Sock told Sky Sports' Annabel Croft during his on-court interview.

"It's definitely disappointing in both matches in that third set after being in a good position and putting myself in a good position". But I love playing here in London, it's an unbelievable atmosphere, you make me feel like home. "I don't know what am I going to do sometimes, but it keeps it fun".

"He hit a few netcords today, but that's tennis".

With the showpiece being held in London since 2009 and the players more than familiar with the confines of SW19 having competed at Wimbledon, they have plenty of experience of the British capital.

"My coach nicknamed me showtime when I was young".

"Definitely not a great record, but I felt that I played even well a year ago", Cilic said.

Cilic, who has won only one of his eight matches overall at the season-ending tournament, is 0-2 and will be eliminated if Federer beats Alexander Zverev in the late match. Who will win the World Tour Finals this year?
