NCAA Rules Braxton Beverly Immediately Eligible To Play For NC State

After having two appeals denied and hiring a lawyer to fight the NCAA, freshman guard Braxton Beverly will finally suit up for the Wolfpack Tuesday night.

Based off the NCAA's tweet, the Ohio State transfer is eligible to play Tuesday vs. Bryant.

Beverly enrolled in two summer classes at Ohio State, but four weeks later, longtime coach Matta was let go by the Buckeyes.

"Braxton wants to thank the NCAA for carefully considering NC State's Request for Reconsideration and permitting him to play this season".

Beverly was denied immediate eligibility after leaving Ohio State following Thad Matta's resignation.

After a waiver request and subsequent appeal, Beverly was still ineligible. Beverly later hired Tompsett as his attorney and released a first-person version of events expressing his disappointment at not being able to play.

N.C. State spokesman Fred Demarest said the school received word that the NCAA had ruled in N.C. State's favor on its request to reconsider its earlier rulings that Beverly would have to sit out one season as an undergraduate transfer. According to NCAA bylaws, N.C. State had to file new information which wasn't initially available in order for the decision to be reconsidered.

The transfer rule has been waved a fair amount for extenuating circumstances-all Penn State football players were permitted to transfer and compete right away after the Jerry Sandusky scandal, for example, and the sit-out rule is often waved if a player is moving closer to home to be with a sick loved one.
