Woman Faints in Court While Declared Guilty of Attempted Murder

Defendant Diana Lovejoy faints in court after hearing part of the jury's verdict

A woman convicted in a murder-for-hire plot against her ex-husband fainted in court upon hearing the verdict.

Lovejoy appeared to pass out after she was convicted on the two counts, courtroom video showed.

Lovejoy's family gasped at the ruling.

Judge Sim von Kalinowski cleared the courtroom so Lovejoy could receive medical attention.

Moments later Lovejoy collapsed in her chair.

Court reconvened 30 minutes later without Lovejoy, who was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Fox5 reports Diana Lovejoy, 45, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder in a California court on Monday (local time). As his family watched, he closed his eyes, put his head in his hands and cried.

Lovejoy faces 25 years to life in prison while McDavid faces 50 years to life when sentenced in December. McDavid faces 50 to life as he pulled the trigger.

Mulvihill and Lovejoy had been separated since 2014 and in the process of a divorce, after she had accused him of sexually assaulting her and their son. That payment was due weeks after he was shot.

Shots were fired, KSWB reported, and Mulvihill was injured.

The question was whether the expert gunman did it as a $2,000 hired hitman, or whether he was simply trying to shoot out the light in Mulvihill's left hand.

The father-of-one was lured to a dark dirt track and shot once in the stomach by Weldon McDavid Jr, who donned camouflage and lay in wait for the ambush.

McDavid's attorney, Ricky Crawford, said his client was a trained marksman and former Marine who fired his rifle only after he heard someone yell "I have a gun!" The bullet struck him under his left armpit, and exited out of his back. It took jurors parts of two days to reach their decision.

Several guns were found in McDavid's garage, along with a silencer and a "blast bag" that contained some spent shell casings, prosecutors said.

A member of her legal team immediately reached out and grabbed her elbow as an officer tried to help Lovejoy sit upright. "But that didn't change any of our verdicts".

Lovejoy met Weldon McDavid Jr when she started taking shooting lessons at the range where he worked. He later installed a security system in her home.

In September 2016, Mulvihill got a call about information on his ex-wife.

There was no such evidence.

Mulvihill said if he wanted the father-of-one dead, he would not have survived.

The Californian couple were in a fierce custody battle for their young son in September a year ago when Lovejoy hired her gun instructor as an assassin, The San Diego Union Tribune reported.

"The defense they were giving just didn't seem plausible", juror Reed said.
