Joss Whedon is still working on the Batgirl movie

Zack Snyder Justice League Petition

Indeed, while Whedon had a strong hand in crafting Justice League, the filmmaker is taking no ownership (at least publicly) of the film at all aside from liking a tweet that took a dig at the awful villain Steppenwolf. It did touch the mark, but on the fourth day of its arrival, and not in the regular three-day opening week.

In addition to Batgirl, projects said to be in the works include Wonder Woman 2, Justice League sequels, Matt Reeves' Batman movie, Flashpoint, Suicide Squad 2, a Joker and Harley Quinn movie, Gotham City Sirens, a Dwayne Johnson Black Adam movie, Man of Steel 2, Cyborg, and a Green Lantern Corps movie with David S. Goyer involved. Simply, because the Star Wars reboot series has got its massive fan-base which has anticipatedly been waiting for the second film in the rebooted Star Wars trilogy, after 2015's The Force Awakens (and not to mention that it grossed a massive $2 billion and is now the third highest grossing movie of all-time). It's no secret that the first live-action Justice League movie ran into several obstacles during production. But thankfully, there is confirmation for at least one of the scenes in the film. I thought it came out great, but the studio felt it would be a mistake to open the film with a completely comedic scene, so it was re-edited a little bit. Gratefully, Joss.' I can't tell you how much it meant to me that he took the time to write to me. "I had the letter framed".

And so a rumor started making the rounds today that Whedon was no longer directing Batgirl, the film that first brought him into the DC/Warner Bros. fold in the first place. A comedic opening for Batman that sets up the rest of the film may not have been the right choice, but it would be interesting to see what Whedon initially had in mind for the sequence.

So Justice League's faults, if Warner Bros. sees it that way, are not necessarily Whedon's to bear. A lot has been speculated about all the scenes that were re-shot.

Justice League fans have launched a petition on Change.org, demanding the release of Snyder's cut of JL on Blu-ray. We'll just have to wait and see what happens on that front.
