Singer Sues Disney, Claiming 'Let It Go' Ripped Off His Song

TeenZone Magazine

The iconic song from "Frozen", "Let It Go", was shamelessly ripped off from a famous global artist, who is now suing everyone even remotely connected with the smash hit.

The famous song "Let it Go" from the film Frozen is now at the center of a lawsuit, according to multiple reports.

TMZ now reports that musician Jaime Ciero is suing the three defendants, claiming that the Disney hit sounds like his 2008 song "Volar".

"Volar" is recorded in Spanish, and true enough, there are similarities. Speaking previously about the success of Let It Go, Demi noted that it's a good song for her to sing considering the struggles she has undergone in her personal life, including combatting eating disorders and substance abuse issues.

"Ciero's lawyers demand a jury trial, where they hope to win a variety of penalties, including "enhanced damages" up to $150,000".

Menzel, who recorded the track for the movie, and Lovato, who recorded the radio single, are specifically named in the suit. The artist is suing Disney and the artists involved in profits from Frozen, which of course, turned out to be a massive success thanks to its box office sales, merchandise, and album sales.

In a lawsuit filed this week, Chilean songwriter Ciero argues that the popular Frozen song sounds substantively similar to his own song, in terms of "note combinations, structures, hooks, melodies, lyrics, themes, production and textures".
