Stipe Miocic vs. Francis Ngannou Set For UFC 220 on January 20

In one of the most highly anticipated heavyweight title fight in years, champion Stipe Miocic will put his title on the line against Francis Ngannou in the main event for UFC 220 in Boston on January 20. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the UFC had yet to make its plans public.

After Ngannou's knockout of Alistair Overeem on the main card of UFC 218, everyone in attendance knew we had ourselves a new No. 1 contender, and this would be made official by Dana White in the post-fight press conference.

20 at TD Garden in Boston and airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass. If Miocic were to successfully defend his title, he would be breaking the record for most consecutive heavyweight title defenses in UFC history, cementing himself as one of the top heavyweights of all time.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan was there in Detroit for UFC 218 and saw Ngannou's ferocious KO cageside and spoke with Bellator heavyweight Justin Wren about the potential of the native of Cameroon on Rogan's JRE MMA Show podcast. Contractual issues, however, have kept Miocic out of the octagon since the Dos Santos fight. Miocic's last five fights in total have resulted in stoppage wins.

Fighting out of Cleveland, Miocic asked the UFC to restructure his contract earlier this year.

He'll face by far the biggest test of his MMA career when he meets similarly surging champion Miocic, who was last seen stopping former champion Junior dos Santos at May's UFC 211 from Dallas, Texas.

UFC 220 now features one other title fight, a light heavyweight championship showdown between Daniel Cormier and fast-rising contender Volkan Oezdemir.

The only time both undisputed titles were on the line on the same night was at UFC 44 in September 2003.
