FBI Director Defends Bureau Following President Trump's Tweet

FBI Director Defends Bureau Following President Trump's Tweet

Some of Trump's wealthy NY friends pleaded with him at a fundraiser last weekend to change provisions in the GOP tax bill that could hurt them and the president's home state, The Washington Post reported.

"Let me start by saying that it is for me the honor of a lifetime to be here representing the men and women of the FBI", Wrap said in his opening statement.

Then, in early November, we learned that an early draft of that memo had accused Clinton of being "grossly negligent" in handling classified material because she used an unsecured private email server while Secretary of State.

Trump fired Comey in May.

Wray said he had never heard any of the officials listed by Gohmert discussing an anti-Trump agenda.

Russian state-sponsored hackers interfered in the 2016 USA presidential race in part by targeting the email accounts of American targets, according to the US intelligence community, and security researchers have linked those campaigns to operations waged by a group linked to Russian military intelligence known by names including Fancy Bear and APT28. Many times, Wray said he was unable to give further details on Strzok's actions or the actions of others, because of the ongoing investigation.

But in late August we learned that, in fact, Comey and his team began drafting his get-out-of-jail-free statement for Clinton in April - right around the time President Obama publicly declared Clinton innocent of any crimes, and well before the Federal Bureau of Investigation had interviewed dozens of key witnesses, including Clinton herself. Democrats pressed Wray to maintain the FBI's independence from political pressure emanating from the White House.

Think U.S. President Donald Trump is on his last legs and impeachment is just around the corner?

Christopher Wray is a serious understated guy with a reputation for not wanting to make headlines.

Nadler warned Wray that he was under attack from Republicans, and urged him to publicly rebut criticism from the president. Now do we make mistakes?

Wray also faced questions about potential legal trouble for Trump personally arising from Mueller's investigation.

But FBI directors traditionally have been low key and stoic - with Mr Wray's predecessor James Comey a notable exception.

But with the president and many lawmakers questioning the FBI's integrity, Wray offered up a firm defense of the bureau.

FBI Director Christopher Wray is giving an impassioned defense of his agency against blistering attacks from President Donald Trump.

Trump's weekend tweets created a fresh dilemma for Wray.

Wray expressed pride in the agents, analysts and other personnel who he said were working to protect Americans. "The FBI that I see is people, decent people, committed to the highest principles of dignity and professionalism and respect".

"The FBI I see", Wray added, "is tens of thousands of fearless men and women who are working as hard as they can to keep people that they will never know safe from harm".

Wray also spoke positively of Comey. Here's the panel's Republican chairman, Bob Goodlatte.

The competing pressures Wray faces will be on display Thursday when he testifies before the House Judiciary Committee.

He asserted that the bureau was determined to be the "very best" at protecting the American people and upholding the rule of law.

Democrats pushed Mr Wray to respond forcefully, while Republicans echoed Mr Trump in suggesting they worry about political bias in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe of possible Trump campaign ties to Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election.
