India to have more T20I matches under new FTP

BCCI CEO Rahul Johri will apprise the members of what transpired at the recently concluded ICC workshop on FTP in Singapore

Kohli and co. will have a more even spread of matches at home and overseas under new FTPWhat's the story?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India in its Special General Meeting on Monday chose to reduce the workload of the Indian cricket team as it took key decisions about the team's Future Tours Programme (FTP).The board chose to shorten the team's cricketing calendar to 306 playing days, from the earlier 390 playing days, for the period between 2019 to 2023. However, the number of T20Is is likely to shoot up thrice the number they played in the earlier FTP during the period from 2019 to 2023.

The previous FTP included 36 Tests, 73 ODIs and 18 T20Is with a total of 127 games.

In case you didn't know.

. As per the new schedule, India will be playing 158 worldwide matches, 85 home and 73 away matches. The workload management of players has been another issue that has been discussed in several quarters. Team India is already aware of the schedule and have been approved by the Indian team as well.

However, before proceeding with the new schedule BCCI has proposed for home series with South Africa in October-November 2018. The series will comprise of three Tests, five ODIs and one T20I and mark the beginning of the home media rights for five years from April 2018. Though they are set to play more in the upcoming FTP compared to the earlier one but BCCI is looking to sort things out ahead of the crucial SGM in the capital city on Monday.

There has been plenty of concern about how India play a large chunk of their games and home and then away from home without a real home season every year. This does not include the 2021 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2023 ICC World Cup.
