Nicklen says he's often asked why he didn't do something, but he explains, "Of course, that crossed my mind. It's a slow, painful death".
Writing in the accompanying caption, he said: 'My entire Sea Legacy team was pushing through their tears and emotions while documenting this dying polar bear. When scientists say polar bears will be extinct in the next 100 years, I think of the global population of 25,000 bears dying in this manner.
"All of our team was in tears and feeling completely helpless to do anything about it except to roll our cameras and share it with the world", she said.
"Short of action that effectively addresses the primary cause of diminishing sea ice, it is unlikely that polar bears will be recovered", the report says.
Further inspection unearthed that the bear's white hair is straggly and limp, on top of revealing that the polar bear dire state that is utterly all skin and bones.
Dr Čašule agreed and said it was a fine balance to show the public "shocking and devastating" footage and vision that is more "hopeful", but agreed the starving polar bear was an incredibly powerful illustration.
'The simple truth is this - if the Earth continues to warm, we will lose bears and entire polar ecosystems. "But I know we need to share both the lovely and the heartbreaking if we are going to break down the walls of apathy".
The photographer took to Instagram to share the haunting reality of melting ice caps due to global warming, and mentioned that the bear had probably died, "within hours or days of this moment".
Some expressed skepticism that anything could be gleaned about the environment from one image.
Nicklen's video doesn't capture the bear's death, and although he couldn't know for sure if it suffered from other health issues, he believes the animal died of starvation.
But he said that starvation was one of the results of the polar bear's loss of icy habitats.
"Polar bears will be facing much harder conditions, including the shrinking of the amount of available food as the ice melts".
Despite the fact that countless studies have proven that our world is plagued with climate change, there are still those who are convinced that climate change is just a lie fabricated by environmentalists, but perhaps a recent viral video will prove the sceptics otherwise.
As per report by the channel, the deficiency of seals in the area leaves the bears with no option but to venture into human settlements for the need of food.
Many people also questioned why Nicklen did not help the bear. He said that he did not have tranquilisers or pounds of meat to save the dying animal and would have become his prey himself, if he had intervened. "We knew it was going to be gut wrenching and intense and terrible".
