Apple Store evacuated after iPhone 6S Plus battery combusts and burns employee

Apple accused of overcharging customers for repairing old batteries

An iPhone battery exploded and prompted the evacuation of 50 staff and customers at an Apple store in central Zurich.

In a short statement, police said staff sprinkled quartz sand over the device and contained smoke by switching on the ventilation. Apple also said it would lower the price for iPhone battery replacements, and add new features to iOS to provide greater transparency into battery health. As the battery overheated, smoke began to emerge from the device, forcing customers to evacuate the premises. The detonation of the device burned the victim's hand slightly and seven other people who were present at the store were given medical attention.

The battery-related iPhone slowdown may turn out to be the biggest crisis in Apple's history.

When these performance speculations arose at the end of 2017, Apple then released a statement that said its fix would be included in newer iPhone models in the future.

Another incident involving an iPhone 7 overheating was reported this week in Orlando, Florida, causing burns to a teenager's stomach. "I was like, 'Oh my God'". "Absent the code inserted by Apple, the reduced battery capacity of these phones would not have negatively affected processing performance". "You need to send the phone in.' And I was like, 'What's going on with my stomach?'", she said.

Some accused Apple of intentionally slowing older iPhones to encourage consumers to replace them with newer, more expensive models.

Thune asks Apple if the company had made any of these practices known in software update details and if users had the option to decline installing software updates.

The authorities opened a preliminary investigation on January 5 against Apple for "programmed obsolescence" and "deceit" after receiving a complaint, according to an official who asked not to be named in line with policy. The firm apologised for its handling of the issue, saying that its intension was to "make iPhones last as long as possible".
