DISH TV announces Google Assistant integration

That's a product developed right here in Rochester, by a company called Vuzix, which makes virtual reality and augmented reality glasses.

"LG has always been committed to developing TVs that combine innovative technologies with the widest range of convenient, user-friendly interfaces and adding Amazon Alexa is consistent with this strategy", said Tim Alessi, Senior Director, Product Marketing for home entertainment at LG Electronics USA.

Amazon is integrating the Alexa virtual assistant into more non-Amazon devices, including desktop and laptop computers from several manufacturers, a line of Kohler products and new vehicle models, according to The Verge and other publications covering the announcements coming out of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.

If you've got an Amazon Echo Device, you probably have used the digital assistant, Alexa to read you the weather. The strategy is created to put Amazon's service, which generates revenue for the company, in as many places as possible to sell more products. So for those who do not have an account yet but are already planning to purchase the smart glasses, there is still time. While it's a "high price point", he said, "the ultimate goal is to have it under $500, and we'll be able to do that" by 2019.

The launch of the Alexa-enabled AR glasses would surely be a game changer in the industry. But with Siri's HomePod debut delayed, Alexa seems to be stepping into the augmented reality market.

Although many expected Google Home and follow up products to struggle to compete with Amazon after its later entry to the market, being powered by the company's powerful search engine is clearly paying dividends.

In addition to being integrated with Windows 10 PCs from HP, Lenovo, Asus and Acer; Alexa also will power two Kohler toilets, a new bathroom mirror and other products from the new Kohler Konnect line, according to TechCrunch.
