California mudslides sweep away auto in shocking video caught by firefighters

Desionne Franklin sits in his Prius Jan. 11 2018 two days after riding it down a river of mud in Burbank

Mr Franklin, 44, and his girlfriend evacuated a friend's home where they were staying as waves of storm runoff began pouring down County Club Drive, a steep foothill street near hiking trails and a golf course.

While it isn't clear whether anyone was there in the vehicle or not while watching the clip, according to the reports by ABC News, a man Franklin and his girlfriend were sitting in the auto when the video was shot. "She's screaming at the top of her lungs - 'Hey, go faster, go go go, ' she's pulling my shirt", he recalled.

The video was shared by Burbank Firefighters on Instagram and it is scary AF. Apparently, a man named Desionne Franklin was trapped in the auto, doing everything he could to stop it. "We've got to get out of here!'" Mr Franklin said.

"By that time my whole life was flashing before me, 'Oh, this is not about to happen right here, '" he said.

The video emerged as rescuers frantically search for people who went missing after mudslides ravaged parts of Southern California earlier this week.

"It got us through hell and high water, literally".

"The steering wheel was shaking and we could feel boulders and rocks underneath us", said Franklin.

Givens said they were hydroplaning.

The auto is clearly running, with the headlights on and wipers engaged, and was able to get around the curve in the hill, even as a fresh wave of mud and water engulfed it.

The pair then drove to the Burbank library to survey the damage to Franklin's auto, which he began leasing about seven months ago to drive for ride-hailing apps such as Lyft and Uber. After turning the corner, Franklin said the sedan hydroplaned the rest of the way down the hill.

"One of the cars looked like a wadded up piece of foil paper", said Franklin.

Torrential rainfall triggered a mudslide that sent one vehicle careening down a road in Burbank, California, on Tuesday.
