Defense Ministry pushing bill cutting PA funds over terrorists' salaries

Avigdor Lieberman

According to the Jerusalem Post, the Defense Ministry found that the PA paid terrorists and their families over $347 million in 2017.

The Defense Minister has released alarming statistics, the amounts paid to terrorists imprisoned in Israel, and their families, by the PA (Palestinian Authority). A sentence of 3-5 years earns the prisoner 2000 shekels ($582) while a 20 to 35-year sentence is worth NIS10,000 ($2,900) per month for life. Israeli citizens receive a $145 bonus, and terrorists from Jerusalem receive an additional bonus.

Furthermore, the proposal detailed that a married terrorist receives an additional 300 NIS per month and 50 more for each child in his care.

By comparison, the average Israeli citizen earns $2,700 per month and the average Palestinian earns $580 per months, thereby showing that the PA is dangling money to entice Palestinians into committing acts of terror against Jews. The PA's terror stipend system, he said, "not only incites, it's an incentive to carry out terrorist attacks". The terrorists' salaries are anchored in PA law, and the amount increases with every Israeli they kill.

In addition, Liberman said that the longer the prison sentence the more money someone gets, such that someone who gets a life sentence for murder, gets more money.

Obviously, terrorism is a "growth industry" in the PA, as well as one of its better-paying careers.

To combat the PA's funding of terrorism, Israel's Defense Ministry is proposing a bill that would allow ministers to deduct tax revenue Israel provides to the PA based on how much the PA paid terrorists.

The so-called "terrorist wages bill", sponsored by MK Elazar Stern (Yesh Atid), passed its preliminary Knesset reading in June 2017 and was up for its first reading last November, but the vote was postponed at the request of the Israeli Defense Ministry and Israel's National Security Council, which sought to further explore its implications. "The PA is essentially condoning the murder of Israelis and we have to put an end to it".
