Equity indices surge to new highs on global cues, buying support

Markets continued their record-setting run for yet another session on Friday with both the Sensex and Nifty ending at lifetime highs on robust buying by domestic institutional investors amid positive global cues.

The markets opened at fresh high on earnings optimism.

The broader NSE index was up 0.27 percent at 10,679.55 as of 0630 GMT, after rising as much as 0.37 percent to a record 10,690.25.

The Sensex hit an intraday high of 34,638.42 and a low of 34,342.16. On the other hand, realty index fell 1.46 per cent, FMCG 0.52 per cent, power 0.47 per cent and healthcare 0.34 per cent. During the week, the Sensex gained 438.54 points, or 1.28 per cent, while the Nifty rose 122.40 points, or 1.15 per cent.

Investors were cautious ahead of Q3 results by Infosys to released later in the day after the country's largest IT firm TCS posted a 3.9 per cent drop in profit and a 2.7 per cent increase in revenue for the October-December quarter.

At 3:30 pm: The Indian equity indices gained lost ground after falling following the Supreme Court judges press conference.

For the week, the NSE index added 1.2 percent, while the BSE index advanced 1.3 percent.

It broke its previous closing high of 34,443.19 hit on January 9.
