Leonard pours in 25 to carry Spurs over Knicks

Kristaps Porzingis

Ginobili, the Argentine veteran who got some loud cheers as he often does while playing in NY, appeared to be attempting a lob pass from beyond the 3-point line to Aldridge, but the pass went over his head. At least, that's what was supposed to happen.

After scoring 25 points in the Spurs' 119-107 victory in their previous meeting, LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 19 points and five boards while Manu Ginobili scored 12 points and Pau Gasol had 11 and eight rebounds. The sports analysts seem a little taken aback by how odd this pass/score turned out. "I finally was able to take it", Ginobili jokingly said after the game.

"I went insane because once you make a shot like that you want it to count", Ginobili said during a postgame interview on Fox Sports Southwest.

"I did not [see the ball go in], in all honestly". But Ginobili started signaling actively, stopping the game, allowing the referees to look at the recording of the shot. It should count as a three-pointer, but it did not reflect right away on the scoreboard because Knicks forward Michael Beasley picked up the ball and ran down the court without inbounding the leather the way it should be after a made basket. Common sense I guess.

Referees eventually credited the basket to Ginobili — but only for two points. "The refs reviewed it and we got it". "Then everybody started grabbing me and saying the ball went in".

The Knicks host the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Madison Square Garden. Green can be dropped in most leagues and is coming off a rough December with just three games with double digit points.

"Whoever got the ball from the Knicks was pretty good pretending it didn't go in".
