UK PM Theresa Might to announce cupboard reshuffle on Monday

There is more information than ever out there but it is also harder to tell what's true and what's fake news.

Speculation remained rife at Westminster that several big names were on their way out of the Cabinet, with education secretary Justine Greening and the leader of the Commons Andrea Leadsom all reported to be vulnerable as the Prime Minister seeks to assert her authority.

May's office flagged Monday's events as "a refresh" of her top team.

Following a cross-party meeting in Parliament, they criticised Jeremy Corbyn's pursuit of a "jobs-first" Brexit, arguing it was impossible without backing single market membership, as some Labour MPs are urging.

It was not the restart she wanted.

It is understood that May does not intend to appoint a first secretary of state in what has been billed as her biggest reshuffle since taking office in 2016. In both instances May seemed to dissipate any political goodwill she recouped.

However, new analysis finds that it is even more unrepresentative of the country than it was before.

They added: "What is important is producing a government that can deliver on the priorities of the British people and deliver social mobility".

The reshuffle took on a weird twist Monday morning as the official Conservative party Twitter account tweeted an image congratulating Secretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling on becoming the chairman of the Conservative party. Hours late it was revealed that Grayling, rumored for the chop, was keeping his exact same job. Newspapers said he refused to accept a new post, although a source close to May denied that, and said Hunt simply persuaded her.

The foreign, finance, interior and Brexit ministries are run by Boris Johnson, Philip Hammond, Amber Rudd and David Davis.

There were some surprising developments, unrelated to the planned reshuffle.

It was one of several low points in a turbulent year for the prime minister, who took over the helm of a divided government and country in July 2016 after the European Union referendum.

On a day of high drama, Ms Greening rejected the Prime Minister's attempts to move her from the Department of Education to become Work and Pensions Secretary following a two-hour meeting in Number 10.

The party chairman, Patrick McLoughlin, is out, replaced by Brandon Lewis, the immigration minister who arrived in government via local council politics, making him a popular choice with grassroots Tories who deliver leaflets.

His departure followed those of the defence and aid ministers in unrelated scandals the month before, capping a tough year for May after she lost her parliamentary majority in a snap election in June. I'm in this for the long term....

"I don't mean to be rude or to be seen to be disloyal but there needs to be a major improvement to the reshuffle tomorrow", tweeted senior Conservative lawmaker Nicholas Soames on Monday night.

But in a blow to her, the minister for Northern Ireland, James Brokenshire, stepped down because of ill-health. Instead, May confirmed Greg Clark would remain in the role.

"The fact she's still in office", said Beech.
