Bandai Namco announces Dark Souls: Remastered for all major platforms

Demon's Souls' servers may still be going strong two years after release, but however long they do last, I'd bet Dark Souls' servers will certainly last much longer. Although it is not a new entry into the series, the remaster will bring a lot of updates and quality of life changes for the current generation of consoles.

The clarification was reported by Game Informer, who said that Bandai Namco has confirmed there are now no plans to release the Dark Souls trilogy box set "in the Americas". Up to six players can join each other online to either play cooperatively or competitively throughout the quest. The project was first unveiled as part of a last-minute Nintendo Direct, but it has since been announced that the game will hit the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, also. It will also include the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.

While the biggest enhancements over the original come in the form of increased resolution and framerate, Dark Souls: Remastered has a couple of features that should cement its status as the definitive version.

Dark Souls: Remastered is set to land on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 25, 2018. For the newer Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro versions, the game will run at an upscaled 4K resolution while still maintaining 60 fps.

Kotaku alleges that Bandai Namco is aiming to have all three games in the Dark Souls franchise make it over to the Nintendo Switch, though today's Nintendo Direct will be focused on beginning with that first title.
