Deadly 'swatting' suspect's extradition to Kansas could take up to 90 days

Hoaxer accused of 'SWAT-ing' call that led to innocent man's death could face 20 years

The mother of a man killed by police after a fake 911 call is demanding that authorities give her a chance to see her dead son, even as police detained a suspect for the so-called "swatting" prank.

Originally reported by the Los Angeles Times, the caller, now in police custody, will be held without the possibility of bail, and will be pending an extradition hearing that could see him being sent to Kansas in order to stand trial.

The goal of such calls is to get a SWAT team to respond, although Ramsey said none of the officers at the scene were SWAT team members. He was sentenced to two years in a California jail for phoning in false bomb threats in 2015 to the ABC Studios in Glendale, prompting an evacuation and a search with police dogs.

Andrew Finch, 28, was shot dead by a SWAT team officer, who was led to believe he was entering a risky hostage situation, last week. He was actually unarmed.

Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey said Barriss was scheduled to appear in court in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Lisa Finch told the Eagle that her son did not play video games. They included why the officer who killed her son hadn't been identified, why officers placed the family in handcuffs and interrogated them after police shot her son, and the whereabouts of her son's body.

After Wichita police issued a fugitive warrant, Barriss was arrested Friday by the Los Angeles Police Department, some 1,400 miles west of Wichita, Los Angeles police officer Mike Lopez said. Finch, who was not armed, died a short time later at a hospital. The fight between the two Call of Duty gamers that led to the shooting allegedly started over a $2 game wager, according to Dexerto, an online gaming news site.

The Wichita Police Department has no policy or specific training on "swatting" - a hoax that involves officers being dispatched to faked emergencies, Police Chief Gordon Ramsay said Tuesday.

Officers subsequently surrounded the home at the address the caller provided and prepared for a hostage situation.

Local police forces are not required to report SWATting incidents to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, so there are no national figures.

"It goes without saying that our family is devastated by what has happened", Finch wrote in a letter to city officials. "He screamed and then they shot him". "A male came to the front door, and one of our officers discharged his weapon".

Police spokesman Charley Davidson said the department has not received Lisa Finch's letter and can not comment on it.

"The irresponsible actions of a prankster put people's lives at risk", he said. Police claim that he made the call that triggered the massive police response in Kansas.

"Bomb threats are more fun and cooler than swats in my opinion and I should have just stuck to that", SWAuTistic said.

But the victim's mother says police share the blame.
