No sanction from FA for West Brom's Jake Livermore

The fan is alleged to have shouted that losing a baby was no excuse for failing a drugs test

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jake Livermore will not charged by the FA despite attempting to attack a supporter in the stands during last week's Premier League match with West Ham at the Olympic Stadium.

The FA took into account the sensitivity of the insults hurled and decided that the 28 year old's actions did not warrant an official sanction.

While being substituted in the second half of the Baggies' 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium, Livermore was taunted over the death of his baby son.

However, sources have told ESPN FC that the decision to remind Livermore of his responsibilities was taken in order to ensure that the player was aware of the potential risks to his personal safety by confronting supporters. Livermore's teammates, along with help from stewards, prevented him from moving any closer to the individual.

The player and his partner lost their newborn son, Jake Junior, four years ago and he was apparently incensed when an opposing fan made remarks about the incident, going into the crowd to initiate an angry exchange on January 2.

The West Ham fan is alleged to have shouted that losing a baby was no excuse for failing a drugs test, a reference to the time when Livermore tested positive for cocaine while a Hull City player.

He was spared a suspension due to "the unique nature of circumstances".

West Ham said in a statement that the the fan in question had been identified and a life ban would be issued to the offender.
