UN African Ambassadors Demand Apology From Reckless Trump

Mr Trump's reported remarks sparked fury and disbelief

The latest racist remarks by President Donald Trump of the United States of America targeted at Haitians and Africans has sparked global outrage with many describing his comments as reckless.

The bipartisan immigration deal that Trump rejected includes a pathway to citizenship for the young immigrants in the US illegally that would take up to 12 years, according to details of the agreement obtained Saturday by The Associated Press.

The US ambassador in Botswana was summoned on Friday by the government to hear complaints about Trump's reported remarks: "The Government of Botswana, today summoned the US Ambassador to Botswana to express its displeasure at the alleged utterances made by the President of the US", the country's foreign ministry said in a statement posted on Twitter.

"The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used", he tweeted.

AU Spokeswoman Ebba Kalondo pointed out the United States role in the Atlantic slave trade as an example of how African countries, Trump described in contemptuous terms, were exploited in a shameful manner.

Trump reportedly demanded to know why the United States should accept immigrants from "sh**hole countries", after lawmakers raised the issue of protections for immigrants from African nations, Haiti and El Salvador. "That Trump's comments were made public on the evening prior to the anniversary of an natural disaster that devastated the nation of Haiti makes them all the more disgusting, unfeeling and inhumane".

Trump said he would accept any deal that the bipartisan group came up with and would not reject it due to reservations about certain provisions.

Trump didn't answer this or any other question shouted by reporters about his remarks.

But Trump on Friday insisted the reports were inaccurate.

It also said there was a serious need "for dialogue between the US Administration and the African countries".

"This says a lot about what Trump thinks it means to be an American". He added the country "would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime countries which are doing badly". On Monday, the department took that same action against immigrants from El Salvador, another country reportedly mentioned at an immigration meeting Thursday.

Botswana also said it had summoned the USA ambassador to that country to "express its displeasure" and had asked him whether Botswana "is regarded as a "shithole" country".

The comments were said to have come after Trump met this week with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg in Washington. "Ours is not a shithole country".

Trump addressed Haiti, but said nothing about his reported comments on Africa.

"Unfortunately, on the eve of this commemoration the President of the United States made a decision to disparage this attractive island [country] and other black and brown countries out of pure ignorance and disrespect to all of us as Americans", Bichotte added. "The president has the same right to privacy as you or I would if we went to get a physical". He also blamed "both sides" after a white supremacist rally in August in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned violent and a woman protesting against the rally was killed.

"I'm going to make sure we work to remember what he said in the midterm election. and clearly we will not have short memories in 2020", she said.

"Sadly we have #shithole leaders like Trump shitting on us every day".

Lawmakers have until January 19 to approve a short-term government spending bill, and Republicans will need Democratic votes to push the measure through. It was best said a long time ago, E Pluribus Unum - Out of Many, One.
