Hawaii Alert System Accidentally Warns Of Imminent 'BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT'

This was the alert which was issued among residents in Hawaii on Saturday morning which caused panic. Civil Defense later told residents it was a mistake and that someone'pushed the wrong buttons during a drill

"With the threat of missiles from North Korea on people's minds, the state reintroduced the Cold War-era warning siren tests last month that drew worldwide attention". The state recommends having 14-day survival kit of food and water.

As the timeline shows, officials realised immediately that the message was a mistake - but did not post notifications the message was wrong until 8:20 AM, when the news hit Facebook and Twitter.

Catt and York, both, though, shared a concern following the incidental alert: They worry that people on the island won't take any future missile alert with any seriousness. "Death threats are completely unacceptable and not how we do things here", he said. "I knew what to do in a hurricane". The system has come under growing scrutiny in recent months, with public safety officials complaining that it requires upgrades on several fronts.

Automated emergency alert systems are used just about everywhere.

He said he is pushing for the ability to test the cellular alerts, just as the state does with the monthly siren test. "Their attitude and what they want to do, I think it's terrific".

"Someone clicked the wrong thing on the computer", said Richard Rapoza of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, stating the alert was sent out mistakenly during a shift-change drill. Such false alarms could easily lead to an accidental war, and with North Korea that would be one with nuclear dimensions.

The agency changed protocols to require that two people send an alert and made it easier to cancel a false alarm - a process that took almost 40 minutes.

Gabbard said she was "angry" the false alarm went out and said she was hearing stories from all over Hawaii about the traumatic moments in the wake of the alert.

"I've been calling on President Trump to directly negotiate with North Korea, to sit across the table from Kim Jong Un", Gabbard said, adding that the talks should "happen without preconditions". Subsequent clarifications have revealed that the alert was due to a human error and as state agencies have launched an investigation into the matter, so has the Federal Communications Commission.

Residents of Hawaii were badly shaken after an emergency alert warning about an imminent missile strike sounded on hundreds of thousands of cellphones and kept them on their toes for 40 minutes. "No confidence in this emergency alert system", photographer Aislinn Victoria said on Twitter.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen urged Americans not to lose faith in their government.

According to the Washington Post, while experts believe that roughly 90 per cent of the Hawaiian population would survive the immediate effects of such a strike, there are now no designated nuclear shelters in the state, and in all likelihood residents would have no more than 12 to 15 minutes to find cover. "They can trust government systems".
