Liverpool reportedly looking to sign Portuguese winger to replace Coutinho

Liverpool agree contract with £53m Philippe Coutinho replacement

It's been a whole half a day since Liverpool were told they may not be getting Naby Keïta this month after all, so it's probably about time that we had a new rumour about who we're nearly definitely going to sign by the end of next week crop up.

The Merseysiders are on the hunt for a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona in a £142m deal earlier this month, and have been linked with the likes of Riyad Mahrez and Thomas Lemar.

However, it would appear that Martins is Jurgen Klopp's preferred option to replace the former Reds playmaker, with Metro reporting that Correio da Manha claim the Sporting youngster has agreed to move to Anfield.

According to the same reports, Liverpool seemed to offer a £80,000-week salary to Martins, who is tempted to accept the proposal.

Martins now has a buyout clause worth £53m written in to his contract and so-far Liverpool have refused to meet that figure despite the Portuguese outfit making it clear they won't sell for anything less.

Martins has netted nine goals in 29 matches for Sporting in all competition this season.

So far, Liverpool have offered just half that sum, with the two clubs at loggerheads over the valuation of the winger.

If Liverpool aren't prepared to pay £53m it's highly unlikely they'll pay anywhere near £89m so despite reportedly agreeing personal terms with the player, it looks like a deal is still a long way off.
