Suarez Inspires Stunning FC Barcelona Comeback At Real Sociedad

Luis Suarez

Barcelona came from two goals behind to record a 4-2 win over Real Sociedad in Sunday night's pulsating La Liga clash at the Anoeta.

Barcelona remain unbeaten as the season hits its halfway point and hold a nine-point lead over nearest rivals Atletico Madrid, with defending champions Real Madrid languishing 16 points off the pace.

Inigo Martinez was a notable absentee for the home side as the speculation surrounding the centre-back's future continues. Juanmi and Kevin Rodrigues join the starting line-up.

Barcelona also said that Andres Iniesta "has a problem in his right calf and his recovery will determine his return to action for the coming matches". After the comprehensive Copa del Rey victory just a few days earlier, the Catalan giants continued being the hard-hitting side we're so accustomed to as Sociedad were well beaten in the second half.

Messi's 23rd goal of the season in all competitions, via a stunning free kick, wrapped up the points and ended Barca's Anoeta nightmare.

The goal for Messi was of extra importance as with it he became the highest top league goalscorer for one club in Europe's top five leagues surpassing Gerd Muller with his 366th LaLiga goal. Sociedad goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli got a hand on the ball, but could not keep it out. "We had the first chances", he said.

Yet Bilbao were behind for just six minutes as an unmarked Inaki Williams headed home Enric Saborit's cross.

But the fact of the matter is, for the first time in several years, Barcelona were in a great position to break the niggling jinx.

New manager Vincenzo Montella saw his team fall behind in the 52nd minute when the visitors failed to clear a corner and Garcia took a touch before hooking his finish around Simon Kjaer and into the net.

However, this Barca team is made of stern stuff, and goals from the surprisingly prolific Paulinho a brace from Luis Suarez and a free kick from Messi turned the game on its head and put the league leaders on the road to victory.
