Trump Says That DACA Deal in Congress Is "Probably Dead"

Getty Images

In a statement, the agency said, "Until further notice, and unless otherwise provided in this guidance, the DACA policy will be operated on the terms in place before it was rescinded".

After hearing Allsup's decision, the White House strongly condemned what some may say is judicial overreach.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday said the Obama-era immigration programme "DACA" is "probably dead", despite the federal government resumed accepting applications for the same on Saturday. A Republican attendee, Sen. "I don't know if there is going to be a shutdown", he said.

The sole Democratic participant in the Oval Office meeting, Senate Minority Whip Richard J. Durbin of IL, told reporters Friday that Trump had used the vulgar word "not just once but repeatedly" during the meeting.

Trump tweeted Sunday morning that his proposed immigration reforms are about making American "strong and great again".

Love is also facing a potentially tough reelection race this year, and Republicans in such situations appeared more likely to be critical of Trump on Friday.

While Democrats have expressed openness to a deal that would combine legal status for "dreamers", as the group of young immigrants brought illegally as children are known, with funding for border security measures, Republicans have tried to broaden the talks.

Talks got even more complicated after sources said - and at least one Democratic lawmaker at the meeting publicly claimed - that Trump had made disparaging remarks about accepting immigrants from African nations.

Regarding DACA, the president reiterated that he was working toward a deal, but that Democrats were not helping.

The fate of the program protecting almost 800,000 immigrants from deportation who were brought to the US illegally by their parents years ago when they were children is at the forefront of the Washington political debate this week. Republicans are seeking an increase in military spending; Democrats want a DACA deal and a matching increase in nondefense funding.

'Defend the indefensible' Senator David Purdue, a Republican from Georgia, called charges that Trump is racist "ridiculous" and his reported remarks a "gross misrepresentation" of the White House meeting on immigration.

But last week, a federal judge in San Francisco said the almost 690,000 DACA recipients must retain their work permits and their protection from deportation while a lawsuit moves forward.

'A deal to be had' But Senator Jeff Flake, a Republican who has been critical of Trump, said Democrats were serious about a bipartisan deal on immigration. Lindsey Graham and Dick Durbin were the two people presenting this compromise there. And when we asked Donald J. Trump as a private citizen to support those trips, he was a large financial backer of both medical mission trips.

The White House did not dispute Trump's use of the vulgarity when The Washington Post first reported it Thursday. "I didn't hear that word either", said Arkansas Sen.
