Christie stopped for security check at Newark airport

Christie Denied Special Entry at Airport

Chris Christie tried to take a special access entrance at an airport Thursday morning, only to learn he no longer has that privilege. He attempted to enter through a special access area with his State Police security detail, located near the exit of the restricted area of the terminal, reported CBS News, citing a person familiar with the event.

A state trooper was escorting Christie at the time.

Christie reportedly cooperated with instructions and reentered the airport. While the New Jersey State Police declined to comment about this specific incident, the agency did say an outgoing governor is afforded a security escort for up to six months following completion of his term.

Before Christie left office, he told NJ.com in a colossal meeting on his governorship that, were it not for President Donald Trump's dazzling effort, he would be in the White House today.

"It's incredibly frustrating to think to yourself, 'Wow, if this guy were not in the race, we'd win this thing, '" Christie told NJ.com. He included, "And I completely accept if Trump had not gotten into the race I figure we would have won".

But on Thursday, Christie - who just left office on Tuesday - learned that most of those perks don't survive the end of the term.

The two-term Republican, who left office on January 16, was blocked from a VIP entrance he had used for eight years, and directed to stand in Transportation Security Administration screening lines at Terminal B like anyone else, according to a person familiar with the incident.
