Ryanair pilots vote to accept pay increase

Ryanair flight at Stansted airport in London

Ryanair has confirmed that all 15 of its United Kingdom pilot bases - including London Stansted which had previously rejected an improved pay deal - have now voted in secret ballot to accept pay increases of up to 20 per cent and these increases will be paid next week in the January payroll. This includes Stansted and five other bases where pilots had previously rejected the company's overtures.

"The union has convened meetings with its members in Ryanair, and Fórsa has told management we will ballot on a no-strings pay package as an interim measure, pending engagement on pay following completion of a recognition agreement", said a spokesman.

The airline claimed the pay rises meant Ryanair pilots would receive 20% more than those flying 737s for Norwegian and Jet2. However, the airline says 35 per cent of pilots failed to meet its deadline to agree the increase and will miss out on a January rise.

Ryanair said pilots at each of its 15 United Kingdom bases, including its largest base at London Stansted, accepted pay increases of up to 20 per cent that many had rejected a year ago, sending its shares 3 per cent higher yesterday.

"Ryanair had asked the remaining Dublin pilots to vote on this large pay increase on or before January 17 so that they could be paid in next week's January payroll".

Communication with the trade union FORSA and its Ryanair Irish Pilots Council will continue, Ryanair says, and the pay increase will be included in the February payroll if it is accepted.
