Federal Bureau of Investigation opened inquiry into Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens

Missouri governor'no blackmail''no violence in affair

Eric Greitens (R) insisted to the Associated Press Saturday that there was "no blackmail" and "no violence" involved in his months-long extramarital affair with his former hairdresser.

Greitens admitted January 10 to an extramarital affair prior to taking office and, through his attorney, has denied related claims that he allegedly threatened to release a partially nude photo of his mistress if she went public about their relationship.

CNN cited two unnamed USA officials and one named source, a 22-year-old man who claimed he had been interviewed by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents.

Greitens's lawyer James Bennett told CNN that the governor "has not been contacted at any time by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and we are not aware of any interest by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in this personal matter that took place years ago".

CNN reported Saturday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has also opened an inquiry into Greitens.

"The scope of the Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry or when it began was not immediately clear", the report said.

CNN reported Friday night that the Federal Bureau of Investigation "recently opened an inquiry", citing "two United States officials" and noting that neither the scope nor the start date of the reported inquiry were known.

Watkins, the attorney for Karabell, offered his client's side of the story in an email to the News-Leader on Saturday and confirmed that Karabell had indeed met with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The news of an Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry into Greitens comes one week after a local TV station in Missouri broke the news that Greitens had an extramarital affair.

Watkins also represents the ex-husband of the woman with whom Greitens had an affair.

Dixon says it's an important tool, especially for companies who are looking to expand or even relocate to the Show Me State.

In a recording obtained by CNN affiliate KMOV, and later also obtained by CNN, a woman is heard saying, "He used some sort of tape, I don't what it was, and taped my hands to these rings and then put a blindfold on me".

Greitens admitted to the affair, but denied allegations of blackmail. Audio recorded by the woman's now-ex-husband purports to depict the woman accusing Greitens of threatening to share a nude photo of her without her consent if she told people about their affair.

"This was a consensual relationship", Greitens told the AP in his first interview since the allegations surfaced.
