Serial stowaway Marilyn Hartman, 66, flies from Chicago to Heathrow

US woman sneaks on a plane and flies to London

Last Sunday, in Terminal 3 at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, prosecutors say she slipped by two Transportation Security Administration PreCheck officers.

Once on board she hid in the lavatory until she could find a seat.

According to police, she then got on a flight that landed at Heathrow Airport in London, where she was detained by British customs officials and denied entry into the United Kingdom.

Prosecutors said Hartman stayed overnight at the airport, and the next day she approached a shuttle bus headed for the worldwide gate.

Chicago police say Marilyn Hartman has a history of these sorts of incidents, and has been caught a couple of times in the past. According to prosecutors, she then tried and failed to board a flight to CT. Simonton said Hartman tried to dart past the passenger but was stopped by the gate agent, who told her to sit down.

Marilyn Hartmann, from Grayslake, was arrested Thursday at O'Hare after she managed to bypass the TSA and fly to the U.K. Upon her arrival in London, she was sent back to Chicago, as British Airways had by that point warned the U.K. authorities.

Simonton noted that Hartman has been convicted of misdemeanors for criminal trespassing at O'Hare four times in the past.

Last year, she pleaded guilty to a trespassing charge and was sentenced to six months at a mental health facility, after she was found at a bus terminal at O'Hare. In a hearing Saturday afternoon, a judge ordered her released on her own recognizance, but ordered her to undergo psychiatric treatment and stay away from O'Hare and any British Airways planes.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Hartman has been arrested several times and claims that she "may have" snuck onto planes on eight different occasions.

Hartman also has three misdemeanor convictions for similar crimes in California, McCarthy said.

Hartman was at the Cook County Jail because she did not have a place to stay in Cook County, which was a requirement for the electronic monitoring, Sophia Ansari, press secretary for the Cook County Sheriff's Office, said.

Called the "infamous serial stowaway" in the American press, Ms Hartman, 66, has boarded flights without a ticket or identity papers at airports from California to IL. Her movements were caught on video. Hartman managed to board the shuttle despite having neither.

"This matter is subject to an ongoing investigation and TSA is working closely with our law enforcement and airline partners in that effort", according to the statement.
