Top Gymnastics Board Members Resign in the Wake of Larry Nassar Case

NEWS Top USA Gymnastics executive leaders resigning in wake of Nassar scandal

It comes in the wake of the sexual abuse scandal involving former team doctor Larry Nassar, who has admitted assaulting gymnasts.

In addition to criticizing USA Gymnastics, numerous victims called out Michigan State University and President Lou Anna Simon for continuing to employ Nassar for years after receiving complaints of his behavior.

On Monday, the executive leadership of the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors - Chairman Paul Parilla, Vice Chairman Jay Binder, and Treasurer Bitsy Kelley - all announced their resignations, effective January 21.

USA Gymnastics President Kerry Perry says the resignations "will allow us to more effectively move forward in implementing change".

Nassar, who also worked for Michigan State University, has already been sentenced to 60 years in prison for possessing child pornography.

Some of Nassar's victims include gymnasts that have become household names after their Olympic accomplishments, like Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, Simone Biles, and McKayla Maroney. The young women accused the governing body of seeking to suppress their accounts in bid to avoid bad publicity about the national program.

"No sister survivor warrior's voice goes undiluted here", the judge said.

The announcement comes as Nassar's sentencing hearing continues in a MI courtroom. "Shame on you Larry".

Monday's first speaker, Bailey Lorencen, concentrated her rage on John Geddert, the head mentor of 2012 gold-decoration Olympic group and a conspicuous mentor in the USA Gymnastics framework. He told the grandmother that if she proceeded with the charges against Geddert it could put his gym in jeopardy.

The case and testimony has had an impact outside of the courtroom as the women and teenagers have called on those who employed Dr. Nassar, including the Twistars Gymnastics training center, M.S.U., U.S.A. Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee.

Mill operator additionally trained in on Michigan State, where she says she saw Nassar for therapeutic arrangements on a month to month reason for a long time. "Tell us how and when there were opportunities to stop you".

"I find myself in a position where I must rob my children of the freedom they deserve, to have relationships and mentors with other adults that are most likely wonderful individuals. Was it my fault?" "He helps them feel comfortable and calm when they're coming in to talk about subject matter that is hard for anyone to talk about, let alone a child". No, it was not my fault.

Miller said her final treatment was in August 2016, meaning she may have been one of the final victims of Nassar before he was arrested.

Raisman tweeted that she would not attend the sentencing "because it is too traumatic" but added that a letter will be read in court on her behalf.
