Epic unveils roadmap for near future of Fortnite

Fortnite Battle Royale game mode

While most of the proposed upgrades for Fortnite seem to focus on the game's popular Battle Royale mode, it appears that Epic still considers the base Fortnite experience to be popular enough to justify keeping up with moving forward.

The company also says it is working on new limited time modes (LTMs) for the game.

Epic Games said the next "Fortnite: Battle Royale" game update will roll out key changes and enhancements, including the rotating out of items and consumables. Instead, they suggest that they are working to offer things like limited mode options, more "fun" items and characters, enhanced audio, and other unannounced ideas created to expand the game's content offerings. Epic Games said that players' feedback is being listened to, but more information on the topic hasn't been released. The mode would have two teams loaded in two different buses and dropped in different parts of the map. The weapon would be removed from the PC, PS4 and Xbox One for the time being.

Upcoming modes in the game could be a new version of 50-versus-50 - dubbed 50v50 v2, somewhat similar to the in-engine trailer, notes Polygon.

This will enable them to manage the weapon pool and ensure that there is not an overflow of options within the game. It is because of this incident that the developers have made a decision to work on scaling their game for even higher load as it seems that "Fortnite" is just set to keep growing and they want to avoid more issues such as this in the future.

In the update, Epic also announced that this week, the SMG will be removed from the game.

Explaining why it is being removed, an Epic representative wrote on Reddit: "As we add more weapons, consumables, and other item types, we want to make sure that the balance of itemization isn't ruined". Now that may sound great on paper, but it can also lead to a game's downfall if they cannot accommodate the growing number of players, which is why Epic Games, in their continued act of transparency, has revealed some changes in their plans for "Fortnite" now that it is clear that, if they do nothing, it will grow out of control.
