Indian Mujahideen terrorist, teacher in Nepal, Ariz Khan arrested in Delhi

Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested Indian Mujahideen terrorist Arij Khan alias Junaid who was wanted for his involvement in five bomb blast cases.

A team of the Delhi Police's Special Cell arrested Ariz Khan (32) from Banwasa on Indo-Nepal border.

Khan, wanted in several terror attacks cases, was on the run after his escape during an encounter at a residential building in Delhi, along with some fellow terrorists in 2008.

During the Batla House operation, encounter specialist Mohan Chand Sharma was killed. Meanwhile, Ariz Khan was believed to be the fourth accused managed to escape from the encounter scenario. Initially, he tried his hand at running a restaurant but later started teaching in different schools in Nepal.

"He is an expert bomb maker, conspirator and executioner".

On September 19, 2008, Khan, a native of Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh and an engineering dropout, were allegedly hiding in house number L-18 in Batla House, Jamia Nagar in Delhi when the Special Cell raided the premises. The blasts took place at Paharganj, Barakhamaba Road, Connaught Place, Greater Kailash and Govindpuri areas.

While Delhi Police had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information about Khan, the National Investigating Agency (NIA) had announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh.

Kushwaha said that Khan and Tauqeer returned to the subcontinent in 2017 in order to revive the SIMI (Student Islamic Movement of India). "After living in Nepal for a few years, both left for Saudi Arabia", the police officer informed. He was scheduled to meet a contact in UP when he was caught, added the officer.
