Sen. Graham Calls 'Odd' Susan Rice E mail Into Query

Susan Rice

The partially unclassified email appears to detail a meeting that took place on January 5, 2017, two weeks before Trump's inauguration. Lindsey Graham, the partially unclassified email was sent by Rice on January 20, 2017 - and appears to document a January 5 meeting that included Obama, then-FBI Director James Comey, then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, then-Vice President Joe Biden and Rice.

"The president stressed that he is not asking about, initiating or instructing anything from the law enforcement perspective".

"From a national security perspective, however, President Obama said he wants to be sure that, as we engage with the incoming team, we are mindful to ascertain if there is any reason that we can not share information fully as it relates to Russian Federation".

Grassley and Graham have indicated a deadline of February 22, 2018 to Ambassador Rice and her legal team, so the committee may further assess the situation. Chuck Grassley and Lindsey Graham.

Grassley and Graham said in their letter they found it "odd" that Rice felt it necessary to send herself "such an unusual email purporting to document a conversation involving President Obama and his interactions with the FBI regarding the Trump/Russia investigation" in her final hours as a member of the Obama administration.

The judge also speculated to Fox News' Martha MaCallum that Rice wanted make it appear that Barack Obama "was ignorant of the fray fomented by his administration to undermine the incoming president and his hands were absolutely clean".

The email raises serious questions over former President Barack Obama's involvement in the FBI's investigation into allegations the Trump campaign "colluded" with Russian officials, as well as the administration's involvement in Hillary Clinton's email scandal. "During the meeting, did Mr. Comey describe the status of the FBI's relationship with Mr. [Christopher] Steele, or the basis for that status?" they asked.

"A person familiar with the January 5, 2017, meeting said the Obama administration wanted to know whether the Federal Bureau of Investigation and others in the intelligence community believed there was a national security reason to limit conversations with the Trump transition about Russian Federation because some of the incoming president's team could be compromised", CNN reported Monday. "If so, when did these occur, who participated, and what was discussed?"

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. All by the book!

What is notable is that according to the date stamp it was written on inauguration day, likely just before Rice left the White House for the last time.

There seem to be only a couple reasons why Rice might have chose to pen such an email.

The email also corroborates text messages sent between Federal Bureau of Investigation agents working on the Clinton and Trump cases, that Obama "wants to know everything we're doing".

Furthermore, Rice's email may also have revealed the beginnings of the Obama "deep state" operation.

Rice said that Obama then asked about how to proceed, given national security concerns about the investigation. She may have grown anxious about the new Republican government scrutinizing such meetings, and hurriedly thrown together an account replete with assurances that everything was above-board on her way out the White House door.

Parts of Rice's emails were released as part of a probe by the Senate Judiciary Committee into the FBI's investigation into Trump.
