Shooting at NSA facility in Maryland, SUV stopped at Fort Meade gate

NSA shooting

He said he didn't know how the person was injured or whether the person was a law enforcement officer or a civilian.

In a statement, the White House said that President Trump had "been briefed on the shooting at Ft. Meade", and the White House offers thoughts and prayers with those who have been affected, spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said. "We will continue to provide updates as they become available".

The incident took place at the NSA entrance gate on MD-32 around 7:15 a.m. The situation was under control, and there was no ongoing threat. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department provided assistance and the FBI is investigating the situation. The exit to NSA remained closed.

Footage from the incident on CNN showed, what appeared to be a black SUV being stopped at the security barrier. Traffic is backed up in the area.

Meade officials confirmed that the incident happened on the Canine Road gate to the NSA.

In March 2015, a 27-year-old man died after the stolen SUV he was in crashed outside the NSA.

Shots were fired outside the headquarters of the National Security Agency Wednesday morning.

That incident was not believed to be linked to terrorism or a planned attack.

Anne Arundel County (Maryland) police reported the incident, but say they are not the ones investigating.

Earlier media reports said that as many as three people had been wounded at the base, which is the home of the NSA, as well as the U.S. Cyber Command and Defense Information School.
