US Intelligence Head: Russian Meddling Is A Global Problem

US Intelligence Head: Russian Meddling Is A Global Problem

He added, "We need to inform the American public that this is real".

U.S. Central Intelligence Agency Director Mike Pompeo strongly denied on Tuesday a report that Russian Federation bilked U.S. spies out of $100,000 by offering compromising information on President Donald Trump.

While intelligence officials have said that Russian Federation is interfering with the American democratic process, President Donald Trump has continued to deny their involvement.

"This is not going to change or stop", Rogers said.

Coats said, "We take all kinds of steps to disrupt Russian activities". "This is pervasive. The Russians have a strategy that goes well beyond what's happening here in the United States".

"These states are using cyber operations as a low-priced tool of statecraft, and we assess that they will work to use cyber operations to achieve strategic objectives unless they face clear repercussions for their cyber operations", Coats said in prepared written remarks. "They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help".

In addition to Russian Federation, the officials were questioned about a multitude of potential threats confronting the United States, including North Korea's long-range missile campaign.

Cyber attacks against the US are happening every day, says National Intelligence Director Dan Coats.

The three testified in Congress on the same day that the intelligence community released its annual report on global threats.

The next big test of Russia's influence is likely to be domestic, however: Coats told Congress that Russian Federation is nearly certainly planning to interfere in the 2018 midterm elections in November.

At a June 2017 press conference in Poland, he again said Russian Federation meddled in the election, but added that "other people and other countries" likely did as well. But the latest testimony actually confirmed that it is occurring.

"The American people should all remember that Kim Yo Jong is the head of the propaganda and agitation department", Pompeo said.

"We're deeply concerned about the risk of allowing any company or entity that is beholden to foreign governments that don't share our values to gain positions of power inside our telecommunications networks", Wray said.

Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the ranking Democrat on the committee, said it's been more than a year since the 2016 election, but the USA still has no plan to battle foreign interference in elections.

Burr left unclear when the committee will complete the most closely watched piece of its probe concerning possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

"He hasn't even tweeted a single concern", Warner said.

He explained that the U.S.is now entering a period in which technology is essential and technological superiority should be a priority for the defense of the country.

Trump has repeatedly characterized the expanding investigation into the Kremlin's election interference as "fake news" cooked by the resentful Democrats.

According to Pompeo, the Central Intelligence Agency has analyzed the impact of conducting a potential preventive strike on North Korea, as well as "what we think happens in the event that the USA decides not to do that, and continues to allow Kim to develop his nuclear weapons arsenal".

But a large volume of information has surfaced on Russian use of social media to influence public opinion in USA public policy debates. The American people are smart people.
